AI Agent Engineering

Everyone is building an AI agent.Almost nobody gets one into production.

The idea usually starts in Claude or ChatGPT, and inside that window it often works. Then it meets the real world: live systems, real volume, and the exceptions nobody wrote down. No scope, no blueprint, no governance. That is the execution layer, and it is where we start.

We build AI agents and systems of agents for your business. We start by scoping the work and writing you a blueprint, for free.

Free scoping. Free blueprint. You own it, and you decide whether we build it.

Why a good demo rarely becomes a working agent

The demo

Where it works

A clean conversation, hand-picked examples, a person watching every answer. It proves the idea. It does not prove it will run.

The slip

Where it drifts

Over time the context grows, the prompts age, the inputs shift, the model updates. Answers drift a little each week, and nobody notices until a customer does.

The real system

Where it breaks

Put it inside a live workflow, or add a second agent, and the work changes. Now there are handoffs, retries, approvals and one audit trail to keep straight.

Why build an agent at all

The point is not a smarter chat. It is work that runs without you in it.

Almost every business owner we speak to has already proved the model can do the task. That is the easy half. The value only arrives when the task is wired into the process it belongs to, running on its own trigger, inside your systems, with a human where judgment still matters.

01

A chat is not an agent in your business

A model that answers well when you paste in the context is a smart assistant for one person. An agent is different. It watches for a real trigger, pulls its own data, decides, acts, and hands the hard cases to a named person. Nobody has to remember to open it.

02

The value is the work it removes, not the words it writes

The return does not come from better wording. It comes from the twenty minutes of copying between an inbox, a spreadsheet and your CRM that stops happening, four hundred times a month. That is what gets measured, and that is what has to be mapped before anything is built.

03

The hard part is everything around the model

Permissions, credentials, what happens when a field is missing, the exceptions that break the normal path, who approves before it reaches a customer, what gets logged, what happens when a system is down. This is the work that decides whether an agent survives a real week.

04

Which is why scoping comes before building

Most failed agents were not badly built. They were built against a process nobody had written down. Scoping puts the operation on paper first: every step, every system, every human gate, every way it can fail, and an honest read on what is worth automating at all. Build after that and the thing holds.

Who this is for

We are not for everyone. Here is how to tell.

Read both columns before you book anything. This is about the shape of the work, not the size of the company. If you are in the left one, a scoping session will be worth your hour. If you are in the right one, we will say so on the first call rather than three weeks in.

A strong fit

  • A process is eating hours every week: quotes, intake, claims, invoices, scheduling, support replies, reporting.
  • The work is repeatable. Not identical every time, but it follows a pattern someone could describe to a new hire.
  • It touches systems an agent can reach: a CRM, an ERP, a ticketing tool, a shared drive, a database, even a set of inboxes and spreadsheets.
  • Being wrong occasionally is survivable, as long as a person can catch it before it leaves the building.
  • You want to own what gets built, and you would rather hear no than be sold a maybe.
  • Team size is not the test. A five-person firm carrying a heavy process is a better fit than a large company with a light one.

Not a fit yet

  • You want a demo to show a board next week, not a system that runs after it.
  • The process is different every single time and depends entirely on professional judgment.
  • No one internally can approve access to the systems the agent would need to touch.
  • The volume is genuinely low: a handful of items a month, where the hours saved would never repay the build.
  • You are shopping purely on price and want the cheapest hands on a keyboard.
The gap that decides it

Your idea is good. Without the right scope, it will not land the way you need it to.

Where most stop

A promising demo

It works in the window. It impresses the room. And then it meets live systems, real volume, and the exceptions nobody mentioned.

Where it needs to reach

Something that actually runs the work it promised

Scoped, integrated, measured and trusted. Owned by you. That holds whether it is one agent or a whole desk of them.

01

The prototype that dazzled in the demo and stalls on the first real edge case.

02

The pilot that quietly gets things wrong because nobody wrote down the exceptions.

03

The budget spent on a build that was never scoped, and never quite works.

The difference is never the idea. It is the blueprint underneath it. Scope it properly first, and the same idea becomes something that works.

The model is not the hard part.
What nobody wrote down is.

What we do

We design the system first, then build it with you.

01

The scope

Three weeks with your team. No fee.

02

The blueprint

A full technical specification. You own it.

03

The choice

Build it in-house, hand it to your vendor, or build it with us.

Day 0

A call

Forty-five minutes. Bring whatever you have built.

Days 1 to 7

We learn

A context exchange of documents, screen shares and calls.

Week 2 to 3

We specify

The blueprint, written, reviewed with you, reissued.

Then

You decide

Build it in-house, hand it to a vendor, or build it with us.

Full execution

Connected to your systems

Wired into the tools you already use, so it pulls its own data and writes results back without anyone copying things by hand.

Built to be trusted

Every action is logged. Sensitive work waits for a person to approve it. There is a stop switch, and the agent earns more freedom only as it proves it can be trusted.

Kept honest over time

We re-check its work on a schedule, so when something shifts we catch it before your customers do.

Works as a team

When you have more than one agent, they hand work to each other, escalate the hard cases, and share one clear view of it all.

The ownership guarantee

You own the system. Every part of it.

This is the part most AI vendors leave vague on purpose. So here it is line by line: what you hold at the end of working with us, against what you usually hold at the end of working with them.

The blueprintA designed PDF and a plain spec file, yours to keep and hand to anyoneA proposal that expires when the deal does

Why this matters to us

We build agents that serve the business and the customer it exists for.

We started Maxworthy because we watched good companies bolt AI onto their operations and quietly make life worse for the very people they serve. Longer waits dressed up as efficiency. Answers that were fast and wrong. That is not what this technology is for.

Done right, an agent gives a small team the reach of a large one, and gives every customer the attention that used to be reserved for the few. We only build the kind that does both.

The customer is in the room

Every agent we scope has to answer a second question. Does this save the business time, and is the person on the other end treated better because of it. Faster is not enough if it is colder.

Automation should not hide behind a wall

No dead-end bots, no loops with no way out, no pretending a machine is a person. When an agent handles something, it is honest about it, and a human is always reachable.

Savings should reach further than the balance sheet

When work gets cheaper to do well, that value should not stop at the owner. Pass some of it on, in fairer prices, quicker answers and fewer people on hold, and you buy the cheapest competitive advantage there is. Trust compounds faster than margin.

You keep everything.
Including the option to leave.

Your cloud, your credentials, code in a repository you control. No platform in the middle. Anything that moves money or reaches a regulator keeps a permanent human gate.

Meet Max

Start right now, with Max.

Max is our scoping agent and the first step of scoping. Describe your business and the idea in plain language, and Max will ask the questions a blueprint needs answered, tell you honestly what is feasible, and hand everything to our architects. The full scoping and blueprint is done by our team of experts. Max just gives them a running start.

Step 1. Max. Ten minutes, in your own words. No forms, no obligation.

Step 2. The working session. An architect reads your conversation before you meet, so the call starts where Max left off.

Step 3. Your blueprint. Written, costed, reviewed with you, and yours to keep.

Maxworthy Agents scoping agent

MaxI am Max, the scoping agent for Maxworthy. My job is not to build your agent or answer questions about AI. It is to ask you the questions that unpack what your agent would actually have to do inside your business: what triggers it, what systems it touches, where it hands back to a person, and where it would break. That is the work most people skip, and it is why most agents never make it past a demo. So start anywhere. Paste your idea in here in your own words, however rough, or attach a PDF or document that describes it (the paperclip below). A company website helps too. Then I will start asking. And at any point, click Get your full blueprint to start the process of getting your custom agent.
